42nd Street- Broadway Back in Time

By Ella Warby 42nd street is about a young upstart to Broadway who performs in a new show called Pretty lady. As a tapper I would automatically be drawn to a musical full of tap dancing. I know some of you may not be interested in a load of “clanking about” as I have heard people call it, but I assure you this musical WILL change your mind. Brilliantly choreographed by Randy Skinner and the amazing soundtrack by Harry warren and Al Dubin. In my opinion, the top three songs from the musical are:
3. Go into your dance
This song is the third song in the soundtrack, it is where some of the dancers and Peggy Sawyer, the young upstart, are sitting in a restaurant with a musician in the show. She is telling the dancers that dancing will always make you feel better (I can agree with this by the way). She refers to dancing as a remedy for a melancholy case of the blues. This number is also where Peggy auditions to be in the new show, she showcases how brilliant she is to Julian Marsh played wonderfully by Tom Lister.
2. 42nd street
This is set walking down 42nd street. The majority is sung by Peggy sawyer (Clare Halse). She opens the number by introducing where it is, she then invites the audience to come and join her to walk through Broadway. This song is probably the most well-known song in the musical. This may be because It takes you down the main strip (well it was then) of Broadway and shows.
  1. We’re in the money

This by far is one of the most exciting, well-choreographed numbers in the show. It is in the show to tell the audience that it is after the great depression where nobody has any money. It opens with a couple of children getting excited because they found a dime on the street. At this time America is starting to overcome the great depression and people are obtaining more money.
